Update: Making Bets on the New Year
So it's 2010 and the results are in from my bet with a friend on how the year 2010 will be referred to. See the original post. It turns out that we were both wrong.
2009 was referred to as "oh nine." For example "I graduate in oh nine"
Years before they were referred to as "Class of ninety eight" or "Class of oh four."
Now 2010 will now be called...twenty ten. Wtf? The years have always been referred to by the last two digits. Why is 2010 different? Probably because saying, "I'm from the class of ten" would sound incredibly dumb and confusing. So it's now referred to as "twenty ten." Lame. I guess that's what's going to happen to 2011, 2012, and so on.
But the question is, when will it change back to just referring to a year by the last two digits?
"I'm from the class of twenty one". No that still doesn't sound right. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Who comes up with these rules?
